He obtained a post as a scene-painter in Scotland, and in 1822 worked for the famous opera-house at Covent Garden in London. At that time he began to exhibit his watercolours and oil-paintings, as well as illustrating books with his sketches. In 1838-9 he spent 11 months travelling in Egypt, Syria, and the Holy Land. On his return home, he was elected as a member of the Royal Academy and started to publish the drawings made during his tour, monthly, in collaboration with the lithographer Lewis Haglar. These drawings made him famous in Britain and elsewhere. When Roberts died in 1864, he was a famous man whose customers were rich businessmen and noblemen. Even Queen Victoria and Prince Albert commissioned work from him. His works provide a precise, almost photographic, documentation of the appearance of ancient Egypt, now forever lost. This stunning new portfolio contains ten superb photographs of some of the most important treasures of ancient Egypt, on high-quality paper and suitable for framing. These luxurious, full-color photographs by internationally acclaimed photographer Araldo De Luca, taken from the outstanding book Treasures of the Egyptian Museum, feature regal sculptures of kings, queens, and goddesses as well as exquisite jewels from New Kingdom rulers, encapsulating the glory of the Egyptian Museum's outstanding collections. .
